About Italy

The fourth most populous EU member country, Italy is located at the southern part of the Europe. It has land borders with Austria, Switzerland, France and Slovenia. The country is known all around the world for travel, food, culture and art.

Italy, as a nation has revolutionised a lot culturally in the history, and it continues to do so in the present. The Country is known for the art and culture. But most importantly, its cuisine, there are countless cultural and historical landmarks all over the country like Colosseum, leaning tower just to name a few. After all of this, comes the education system, which has the oldest working University in the world. It is one of the most prestigious education system around the world.

The word University also came from Italy, when in 1088, University of Bologna was established. Not only that, Galileo Galilei – the inventor of Telescope, Christopher Columbus – the great explorer, Leonardo da Vinci – inventor, painter and architect, Enrico Fermi – inventor of Nuclear reactor, and Alessandro Volta – who invented electric battery – are from Italy. Then comes the world famous cuisine with all the Pizza, Pasta and Tiramisu.

There are around 98 Universities in Italy, and out of them 30 of the Universities feature in Top Ranked Universities in the world. The bologna process is the reforming of the whole Italian Education system, which began in 1998. The bologna process is now being implemented throughout the Europe. Italy was one of the four countries in Europe who created the Bologna Process together.

Geography

As mentioned earlier, Italy is located in the southern part of Europe, on a land extending in the Mediterranean Sea. It is a boot shaped nation in the south of Alps. It has some islands like Sicily and Sardinia. Italy has four active volcanos and a large part of the country is of volcanic origin. Etna in Sicily is the largest Volcano in Europe. The Northern part of the Italy is mostly mountainous.  

Travelling

Italy is the fifth most visited country in the world in terms of tourism. The country offers rich art, culture, history and fashion. It is home to many wold heritage sites, more than any country in the world. International students will never get bored here, as there is plenty to explore, from Colosseum, to leaning tower, Amalfi coast and cathedrals all around the country. And we are not counting the mountains and lakes.

Religion

Italy literally has the Vatican City in the heart of it, which is the home of Roman Catholic Church. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that close to three fourth of Italy, 74% of the people in Italy are Roman Catholic Christians. The next largest demographic is of no religion, making it to 22.6% of the people. The other religions come in the remaining 3%. In last two decades, the population of the Indians have increased gradually.

Economy

Italy has the eight largest economy in the world, and third largest in Eurozone. When it comes to quality of life, Italy is ranked at number eight in the world. Italy has a large number of small and medium sized industries than MNCs, and it is the sixth largest manufacturing giant in the world. The automotive sector alone makes 8.5% of the country’s GDP.
