More and more universities in Italy have started to offer the english taught courses for the international students. If you are willing to study at a University in Italy, there are some admission requirements for the Universities in Italy. GRE exam is one of those criteria for the admission. The Universities will ask you to take the GRE, or the GRE scores of the exam taken by you as an admission requirement. Before we talk about the university, here is a brief introduction.
What is GRE?
Graduate Record Examination, known widely by its abbreviation, GRE is a trademark of ETS. Students all over the world appear for GRE, to get an admission in the graduate schools across the globe. The sections of GRE consist of analytical writing and quantitative writing along with verbal reasoning.
GRE scoring system is based on the scale of 130 to 170. The sections of GRE have their own scores, and their combined score makes the overall GRE scores. Some of the Universities will have the overall score as a criteria, whereas some has sectional cut-offs. The Verbal and quantitative aptitude has the range of 130 to 170, and analytical writing has the bands from 0 to 6. Types of GRE test:
Unlike SAT and ACT, which are question based examinations, the GRE is section based examination. The difficulty of the sections is interdependent on each other. GRE is conducted at 1000 test centers in 160 countries by the candidates. GRE has two types:
- GRE General
- GRE Subject Test
The GRE general test is a more comprehensive type of the test and one of the most taken type between the two. It is mostly taken for the admission process where GRE scores are required, or specific MS or MBA courses asking for GRE scores.
As their name suggests, the general test is taken by a wide range of students who want to take GRE for the admission purposes in the Universities. These are for the courses that have specific overall requirements of scores and specific courses by the universities.
The subject tests are taken by the students who want to show an edge on the subject, and the course requires a specific GRE subject test. There are six GRE subject tests:

What GRE scores do You Need?
When you score more than 160 in the verbal and quantitative aptitude, along with 5.0+ in the analytical, you are in the top 10% of the scorers and it is a pretty safe score. The scores from 150 in verbal and quantitative are above the average scores, and they will put you in top 50% of the test takers. The average analytical writing score is more than 4. These are safe scores for GRE.
You can choose up to four institutions to send GRE scores. The institutions are chosen at the time of the registration. Generally the GRE scores are declared in 10 to 15 days from the day of the exam, and they will be automatically sent to institutions once available.
